Jacob de Graaf studied fine arts in Kampen, the Netherlands, from which he graduated in 2001. After running an art gallery for four years in the north of the Netherlands, he moved to the UK where he lived for nearly 15 years in the beautiful city of York. There, under the moniker of In Praise of Shadows he released his debut album IVY – a collection of 14 instrumental compositions for piano.
He has recently returned to the Netherlands and now lives with his partner and two cats in a beautiful home in Rotterdam. It is here that he is currently working and writing music.
Future projects include a follow up album and collaborations with Caroline Lavelle.
